What Is Medication Management?
More than a prescription
Medication management is often misunderstood as “a quick visit for a refill.” At Mind Oak Psychiatry, it isn’t. Every visit includes:
- A review of your symptoms and progress since last visit
- Monitoring of how well your medication is working, and side effects
- Supportive therapy and CBT-informed techniques, when clinically appropriate
- Education about your condition and your options
- Practical strategies for sleep, stress, and coping
- Adjustments to your treatment plan when something isn’t working
If you would benefit from ongoing weekly psychotherapy, we’ll refer you to a licensed therapist you can trust, and continue managing your medication in coordination with them. You get both kinds of care, working together.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Questions we often asked
Q1: What mental health conditions does Mind Oak Psychiatry treat?
We specialize in comprehensive psychiatric care for ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression and bipolar disorders, psychotic disorders, alcohol use disorder, and other substance use disorders. Our goal is to provide thoughtful, evidence-based treatment that supports lasting healing and improved quality of life.
Q2: Do You Prescribe ADHD Medication?
Yes. ADHD treatment begins with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, because accurate diagnosis is what makes treatment work. When medication is appropriate, we prescribe and monitor it closely.
Q3: Do you provide therapy?
Our visits include supportive therapy, psychoeducation, and CBT-informed techniques when clinically appropriate. We do not provide standalone weekly psychotherapy; if you need it, we refer you to a licensed therapist and coordinate care while continuing your medication management.
Q4: Who do you serve?
Mind Oak Psychiatry provides care for adolescents ages 16+ and adults 18 and older. We tailor our approach to meet the unique needs of each age group.
Q5: Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes. We provide convenient, HIPAA-compliant telehealth services to patients across Texas, in addition to in-person appointments at our McKinney office. You can receive the same high-quality care from the comfort of your home.
Q6: What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your initial visit is a comprehensive evaluation where we take the time to understand your history, current challenges, goals, and how symptoms affect your daily life. We work collaboratively to develop a personalized treatment plan designed for meaningful, sustainable progress.
Q7: How do you create treatment plans?
We believe in individualized care. Every plan is thoughtfully designed around your unique needs, lifestyle, and goals. We combine evidence-based approaches with ongoing support so you can focus on recovery while we handle the clinical details.
Q8: Do you only prescribe medication?
Medication management is one important tool we offer, but it is never the only option. We take a holistic, whole-person approach and work with you to determine the most appropriate combination of treatments for your situation.
Q9: What if I’ve tried treatment before and it didn’t work?
Many of our patients come to us after previous treatments were unsuccessful. We specialize in providing fresh, personalized evaluations and care plans. Our compassionate team takes the time to understand what hasn’t worked in the past so we can explore new, more effective approaches.
Q10: Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We accept most major insurance plans. We also offer self-pay options and a sliding-scale fee structure to make quality psychiatric care accessible.
Q11: How long does treatment usually take?
The length of treatment varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some patients benefit from short-term support, while others engage in longer-term care for ongoing stability and growth. We regularly review progress together and adjust the plan as needed.
Q12: What if I already have a therapist?
That’s ideal. We handle the psychiatric evaluation and medication side and coordinate with your therapist, with your permission, so your care works as one plan.
Q13: How often are follow-up visits?
The length of treatment varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some patients benefit from short-term support, while others engage in longer-term care for ongoing stability and growth. We regularly review progress together and adjust the plan as needed.
Typically every few weeks while starting or adjusting medication, then less frequently once you are stable. Your plan is individualized
